Body Oils are used on the skin as a moisturiser and is highly recommended as a skincare product for those suffering with very dry, flaky skin. The majority of body oils feature ingredients and oils extracted from natural sources such as nuts, vegetable and fruit seeds, along with Vitamins C and E, all of which have moisturising and skin protecting properties.

The quality of the oil is also important and will depend on how the oils are pressed, and from what ingredient i.e. nut, fruit or seed. Cold-pressed oils typically contain more good quality ingredients.

Body Oil is a versatile product which suits many skin types. Oil in its very nature renders skin soft and eases area of intense dryness. Unlike lotions and creams, body oils contain just oil, with no water added to the formula. Some lotions are made up of 60% water, making them less potent. Oils are a fantastic way to deliver phytonutrients, antioxidants and nourishing omega fatty acids. These all help to protect the skin from external damage, boost elasticity and collagen levels and most importantly, lock in moisture.

Body oil can actually encourage skin cells to retain more water, keeping the goodness of the ingredients and the moisture locked in. This is due to the fact that body oil is most effective when applied to damp skin. For those suffering with sensitive skin, using natural oils in your skincare regime are much better as they are unlikely to irritate your skin due to the fact the majority don’t contain harsh chemicals or artificial ingredients.

If the idea of using body oil on oily skin isn’t particularly inviting, then don’t let it put you off using. The reason being it is absorbed rapidly into the skin and doesn’t linger on the skins surface due to its ability to penetrate deeper than other moisturising products

How to Apply

As it is an oil-based product, body oil creates a barrier against the outside of the skin, trapping the water from the damp skin and enabling it to sink into the skin. It won’t rub off and provides moisture to more than just the top layer, penetrating the deeper layers, helping to keep skin supple and hydrated.

One thing to remember is not to expose skin to very hot water, as this does dry the skin out, stripping it of its natural oils. Appling the oil now would not have the desired effect and would take more than one application. A moderately warm shower or bath is the best temperature for the delicate skin and then once finished, pat the skin with a towel until damp ready for the body oil application.
